Irreverant beings and other events

Bukka is sitting very peacefully in front of the window, watching birds.
She is a model of quiet contemplation, of feline introversion, of still
beauty. Her front paws are primly abutting at the end of her columnesque
legs; her chin is level and strong; her ears are perked ever-so-slightly
forward, to catch ever twitter and wing-flap. Her long, graceful tail is
draped delicately across my peanut butter and jelly sandwich that I just
put there two seconds ago!

Damn cats.

Yesterday while yard-saling, we found two large bookshelves ($5 each) and a small console table that will serve as a vanity bench (I have no power outlet in the bathroom, so that's where my hairdryer will go, etc.) Still no kitchen table, but that's ok. Either we will find one next week, or I'll just have to make one. I've already started planning the design for the mosaic top, so I can't tell which outcome I'd like more. I haven't made a mosaic in so long... I miss it. I'm thinking of a way to integrate mosaic into the mirror for the vanity bench, too.

Last night I had the pleasure of night-painting. The new shelves are an ugly, fake, dark-brown veneer, and I wanted to paint them right away, but it was too damned hot yesterday. I had to wait until it cooled down sufficiently... and then it was dark. I kept painting until 10 pm, using Melinda's backyard flood lights and a headlamp. It was beautiful. Her lavender bush was right next to me, and smelled lovely. Curious insects kept visiting to see what I was doing (some sucked my blood, most did not). It was just quiet and cool and peaceful. I would have liked to keep going, if it weren't for the gnawing hunger from skipping dinner. I have to get going soon to start a coat of actual paint and finish the primer on the console table. It's going to get too hot again all too soon.
